Awesome, flexible use pannier
by Sophie on 11/2/16
I bought this to use for bike commuting. It can fit a laptop, clothes, shoes, bike lock, and everything I need. I haven't used the rain cover yet, but it seems to fit well when I tried it inside.

My one complaint is that the rope loop on the top that is meant to be clasped to the leash to hold the handles down while riding broke completely off after less than 5 uses. I don't believe it's durable enough for repetitive use. I am in contact with Detours to work out how to fix it. Otherwise the bag is high-quality and suits my purposes perfectly.
Gorgeous bag!

I had my local bike shop order this for me in Radish and it's FANTASTIC! Huge and roomy, well made and versatile. Looking forward to many trips to the store on my bike in the near future.
DIY upgraded the clasp

I'd been looking for a pannier that could also be used as a backpack, and stumbled upon this in a local bike shop. Bonus points for it being under $100; and compact. Because I have a relatively short torso, most backpacks are too long for me. So far, I like this very much. The only drawback was the plastic clip over the top opening: it was too stiff and brittle, and it would take waaay too long for me to try clip onto the rope loop. Finally solved the problem by replacing the plastic clip with a metal version of swivel-hook clip. Makes the bag slightly heavier, but so much more convenient to clip/unclip. Also wish it had another inner zip pocket, but that's a minor quibble.
Almost-perfect bag!

I got this bag over two years ago for work. It's great looking (I have the dahlia model). It's big and holds a lot. The exterior pockets are useful--one fits a U-lock, another the water bottle, and the third small, oft-used items.

What would make this bag even better for COMMUTING (and I realize it's marketed as a, well, market bag) is a separate laptop sleeve instead of the strap, and perhaps another internal pocket or two for even more organization.

Also, if the Ballard Market Pannier could have a magnetic closure like the discontinued TOTO pannier, I'd like it even more---when you open the flap, the magnets hold the bag upright against my metal desk. VERY convenient.

I keep shopping for the perfect bike bag, and I haven't found it yet. Until I do, I'll keep using the Ballard Market Pannier and the Toto Pannier.
awesome bag!

Got this as a gift and love it! Roomy, versatile and easy to clean. Can take to farmers market and fit a cabbage, cantelope and more in sturdy bottom. Also great as work commuter with laptop strap inside. Expandable zip top is nice feature. Backpack straps are not heavily padded but adequate. Easy wipe clean, fun print. 5 star function & design gave it 4 for being made in China.... :( seriously.....
2 years going strong

I had to stop in to say this bag is truly the best. It has stood the test of time with only minimal wear and scuffing. Clips so easily to my bike and stays put with those 2 clips. Big enough for my 17" laptop in a case, plus a few books, water bottle, etc. I wish it had a zippered pocket on the outside of some kind, because it's so deep that things can get lost at the bottom, but truly, this is worth it. Considering that tough bike bags (looking at you Chrome) are NEVER under $100, this is a real value.
Best Bike Accessory

I am absolutely thrilled with my Ballard Market Pannier! The clips hide away easily for off-bike use; I love that it can be a knapsack too! Rain cover is great; Good sturdy bottom. This one has it all, and beautiful enough to use when I'm not biking.

I'm an art teacher and bought this bag to hold all the "teacher" stuff I bring to work with me everyday. I LOVE that this bag is so versatile; it's the reason why I bought it. I've used it as a back back, my everyday bag and put it one my bike when the weather is warm enough to ride to school. I also love the durable bottom, secure strap for my laptop and the weatherproof cover. It's stylish, safe (the reflective fabric is a perfect touch) and the straps are comfortable enough, even with a lot of weight. Thank you for designing such a perfect, versatile bag that's also a pannier! I've shown it to all my friends and demonstrate it's fabulous features regularly! I was so happy when I found this and have bee n using it everyday since.

This bag is awesome. It holds a lot, doesn't look like a pannier when its off the bike, is built well, and is really well-priced. I love it more every time I use it. I only wish it had more reflective fabric on it, and that the fastener at the top was not a rope loop and plastic hook - wish both ends were plastic. The dangling straps don't bother me, but I have a fender on my bike so they are out of the way of the tire. Overall - super glad I found this bag and bought it. I'm contemplating buying a second one.
Excellent Sturdy Pannier
by Beverley on 6/1/13
I received this as a Christmas gift last year, but just recently put it through the wringer (comparatively!) Works great as a backpack, and secures well to rear racks. Can hold a laptop as well as many other things. The only problem I have is that when full, it becomes difficult to put smaller things in the outside pockets. Key is to fill outside pockets first!
